Windowsupdate.com

I had to format the drive to re-installed the Windows XP Home Edition. The reason was the new 4xDVD+R came along with my new 8250 which has lost the drive letter.

However, every thing appears to be normal now as all the programs are now re-installed. But I am not able to get the response from windowsupdate, com

I am not able to check what new updates are available. There is no error message.

Please help me if you can.

Try using Internet MSN Explorer instead of the internet explorer update button under tools. Worked for me.

    Hi Denny,

It is working now. Thanks for the information. I have to disable "Automatic....." and use "Automatic Con Script". It is working now.

    -Friendlyname-,

Go to the site I provided a link to and look under "Scan for Updates Freezes at 0%" which will also point you to "Manual Installation Instructions for Windows Update Controls" on the same page.

    Greensky,

Where do you find "automatic con script?"  I have the same problem.

    Thanks so much.

    Denny,

I tried the manual installation instructions the other day. They say to  download and install controls in a .cab file and extract them to a folder, open the iuctl.inf to install.  The install wouldn't work due to not finding a certain .dll  file in the extracted download folder.  I tried to point the error dialog box to that file over and over again without success.  So I'm stymied.

If you have any suggestions, let me know.  I appreciate your help.

    Hi Jane,

My apology for not responding earlier as I was away from my computer. Here is the link (for XP): "http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/cab/x86/unicode/iuctl.cab and you download the cab file on your desktop.

You can find the above link by following up Denny's link. You have to scrolled down under problem reaching windowsupdate(line #17).

Extract the iuctl.cab file and right click on .inf file and click 'install'. That is all. I have no idea if there is any relationship with the following paragraph and installing the .inf file. May be you just try the following para without bothering to do the above stuff.

From Internet Explorer>tools>internet options>connections>LAN Settings> and unchecked to both the boxes. It is working for me. I hope it will work for you as well.

Denny - I cannot get to the link you have imbedded - or directly as an URL in IE.  I get a 'empty XML style sheet' error  Line 191, CHAR 5, error: 0.

I also get a similar error trying to access anything other than the main Update page, which will error out.

    regards
