XP or wait a week?
I'm ready to order an XPS 710. Should I wait until Jan 30 to get Vista installed or go ahead now and upgrade in March when some bugs have been worked out? From what I read here, the upgrade is pretty seamless. Also, seems like there might be a delay next week since lots of folks are probably waiting for Vista.

I just bought one and wish I had waited. The Vista upgrade itself is easy enough, but then you have to hunt down Vista capable drivers for a number of your components. Many are still in beta, and some don't exist at all (such as the Quick Resume Technology Driver). Let Dell straighten out the driver mess and get it all pre-configured for you.
It will also be interesting to see what they do about security software. Mine came with Norton Internet Security 2006 on Windows XP Media Center Edition. The Norton software will not run on Vista. I suppose I'll have to now fork out another $50 to get it upgraded to Norton 2007.708

Well you know what i meant. Says on the Dell website they should be taking orders on that date. Just stating that getting it pre installed would be the best choice in my opinion.708

I have a feeling that Dell will not have Vista pre-installed on that date. It might take a bit longer for them. Retail will be out....708

Thanks for the tips. I checked mfrs' websites for some old software I'm running and they will not run on Vista, so I'm going ahead now with XP. I hope they get compatible later. If not, I'll upgrade B4 the deadline and reinstall XP from my old computer on another partition or drive.248

Get XP now, purchase the upgrade package for Vista and run a dual boot machine. To me that choice is very simple.

You really need to go to microsofts website and check the hardware and applications you use for Vista compatibility. (or go to the mfg of that software/hardware to check)
I've used Vista as my main OS for a while and have no issues. (all my hardware and software works in Vista.)
