Somehow, I am unable to access Windows Update. When I click on it from the start menu, I get an error message that says Windows Update was disabled by your administrator. Well, I'm the administrator and there's only one computer on line (through a LinkSys router to a verizon DSL modem). This occurs no matter what flavor of Update I've selected from the My Computer Properties Tab.

I've run Norton system checks and System Restore, AdAware SE and Registry Cleaner to no avail. I left Windows Update on Automatic, and SP2 downloaded and began to install. Part way through, I got a message that my system was unstable and SP2 install terminated. I now have no restore points - none of which made any changes to the system anyway.

So I tried loading the Dell Operating System Window XP Reinstallation CD. (I have a Dimension 4400 and the disk is maroon and white.) It asks for my Product Key Code which I cannot find. The Disk came in a plain white envelop with only a part number and a serial number on it. (My MS Office disks came in a more substantial folder with the Cetificate of Authenticity on it.) How do I find my Windows XP product key so I can unlock the reinstall disk??
