Here's how to set sytem profiles using OpenManage Server Administrator. Open the OMSA browser interface, expand "Main System Chassis", then select "BIOS". Select the "Setup" tab, then "System Profile Settings".
Performance Per Watt using Dell Active Power Control manages power saving features at the BIOS level and is OS independent. Impact to performance is minimal in most cases. Performance Per Watt (OS) allows the host OS to control processor power management. Results vary depending on OS choice and configuration.
Performance maximises CPU frequency and disables certain power saving features such as C-States. This may increase performance at the cost of increased power draw.
Dense Configuration prioritises reliability and low power consumption but has a greater peformance cost than "Performance Per Watt" profiles. A custom profiles allows individual control of all adjustable features. Changes should be made with caution. Select the profile to use, then click apply.
Settings are saved, but the system must be restarted for them to take effect. You can also set or disable a power cap for the system under "Main System Chassis", "Power Management", "Management". Power caps limit power draw but may also limit performance For more detailed information on power profiles download the 13G BIOS setup guide.
