This video covers the power and battery options in Windows 11, including how to optimize your system for performance or efficiency, and how to monitor battery usage. Learn how to adjust power settings to maximize your battery life or performance.
These are the power and battery options available for your system as part of the Windows 11 upgrade. To open power options, click on the battery icon in the bottom right corner of the Windows 11 taskbar. In the pop-up, click on the battery icon with the percentage remaining. The next window will have all the power and battery details. Expanding “Screen and sleep” reveals options to configure the behavior of your system when it’s plugged in or while operating solely on battery.
Next to “Power mode,” use the drop-down to select your desired optimization while the system is not plugged in. “Best power efficiency” means longer battery life, but a less responsive system. “Best performance” will sacrifice battery life to give you better performance. There is also a “Balanced” option that combines the two. “Battery saver” allows you to let the system know when to start running a specific battery saver mode. This works by controlling the system’s performance to maximize the battery life. You can turn it on or off and set it to turn on automatically when a specific battery percentage is reached. You can also choose to lower screen brightness when battery saver is on.
The “Battery usage” tab contains in-depth information about the energy used by the system. There are battery level details by date, screen-use drains on the battery, and how long the computer has been asleep. Scroll down to see a breakdown of apps with their power consumption percentage. This is useful when your battery seems to be draining faster than you would expect it to.
