This CRU demonstration covers replacing an input/output module in a DPE in the VNXe. For procedure details, please reference the most current documentation.
Once the faulty component is verified and the storage processor is placed in Service Mode, we need to go ahead and remove the SP assembly.
For demonstration purposes, I’m using an unracked system. The first thing we do is disconnect and label the network cables and then remove all other cables from the back of the SP assembly.
Squeeze the orange levers on the latches on the sides of the SP assembly to release the latches and then pull the latches outward. Pull out the latches until they are fully extended and the assembly is released from the enclosure.
Use the latches to slide the SP assembly about halfway out of the enclosure. Use both hands to support the SP assembly and pull it fully out of the enclosure.
Placed the SP assembly on a clean, flat, static-free work surface. Lets go ahead and remove the SP top cover. Press the blue button on the cover, push the cover straight back about a quarter of an inch, and then lift the cover up.
Next, we’ll remove the IO module. We’ll lift the blue latch carefully until it ejects the IO module from the connector. Lift the module out and away from the SP assembly, and place it on a static-free surface.
Now we’ll install the new IO module. We’ll angle the IO module slightly so that it fits into the housing, and align it with the blue and grey alignment pins.
With the IO module aligned and parallel to the CPU board, press the blue latch down, to fully seat the module in the connector. Replace the SP top cover by aligning the cover tabs with the notches in the housing.
Slide it forward a quarter of an inch, until the tab secures the cover. Now, we’ll go ahead and install the SP assembly back into the DPE. Pull out the latches on each side of the SP assembly, and make sure they stay in the open position.
Align the SP assembly with the enclosure opening, and push it straight into the enclosure. Close the right and left latches to fully seat the SP assembly in the enclosure.
And you should hear a click that indicates the latches are secure. Ensure that the assembly starts powering up after installation. If not, reseat the SP assembly.
Reconnect the cables to the back of the SP assembly, being sure to connect all the cables to the same ports from which you removed them.
That concludes the demonstration. Following this, you need to reboot the SP to bring it out of Service Mode, and then you need to verify the operation of the component.
