Data Domain: EVT-SPACE-00009, Core Dump Capability Impacted Due to ddvar Space Usage

Summary: The EVT-SPACE-00009 alert indicates that the core dump capability on the Data Domain system is at risk due to excessive space usage in the /ddvar directory. This condition may prevent the system from generating valid core dumps during critical failures. ...

Symptoms

  • System alert: EVT-SPACE-00009:
EVT-SPACE-00009: Core dump capability will be impacted because the space usage for core dumps exceeds the warning threshold in /ddvar.
  • Core dump operations may fail or be incomplete.

Cause

The alert is triggered due to sysmon’s space calculation based on system memory size. If the /ddr/var/ext partition is missing, especially on systems with attached enclosures, the system may determine that there is insufficient space to store valid core dumps, even if /ddvar/core appears underused.

Resolution

Step 1: Clean Up Old Files.

Check for and delete outdated support bundles, core dump files, and RPM packages to reclaim space in /ddvar.

  • Commands to be complete from DD-CLI (such as SSH):
# List support bundles
support bundle list

# Delete old support bundles
support bundle delete <bundle_name>

# List core dumps
support coredump list

# Delete old core dumps
support coredump delete <filename>

Step 2: Escalate if the Issue Persists.

If:

  • No old files are found
Or
  • The alert persists after cleanup

Then:

  • Raise a support request with Dell Technologies for further investigation and assistance.
