Symptoms

AppSync fails to expire SQL transaction log backups.

The transaction logs are never expired despite the server logs reporting that expiration is successful.

[DATE] [TIME] INFO [Thread-92753 (HornetQ-client-global-threads-1562455166)] [com.emc.archway.service.eventservice.ServiceInterceptor] [HOST NAME] [] Successful execution of deleteTransactionLogBackups

Cause

The user was storing the SQL transaction log backups at a location which was in a different domain to the SQL server.

The user had specified the transaction log backup location using the universal naming convention (UNC) path, which is supported. However the UNC location was in a domain that was different than the SQL host, resulting in AppSync not being able to expire the log backups, despite reporting that it had expired the log backups.

Resolution

SQL transaction log backups need to be stored in a location which is in the same domain as the SQL server.
Move the log backups to the same domain as the SQL server.

Additional Information

AppSync can be used to create backups of SQL Server transaction logs using a separate schedule to the database copy creation.

Old log backups will be expired depending on the minimum retention period the user has specified and the database backup type that is in use.

For more information on SQL transaction log backups, see the AppSync User and Administration Guide.
