Solutions Enabler: How to Configure Log File to Capture Array Events

Instructions

The daemon_options file contains parameters to configure the log file.

Steps: 

  1. Go to <SYMAPI_HOME>/config /daemon_options file based on host OS as below:
  • Windows: <Install directory>\EMC\symapi\config
  • Linux: /var/symapi/config
  1. Backup the original daemon_options file (as daemon_options_old)
  2. Add the following at the end of the daemon_options file for log file configuration.
storevntd:log_event_targets = file
storevntd:log_event_file_name = <LogEventFileName | events>
storevntd:log_event_file_type = <dated | wrap >
storevntd:log_event_file_size = > 0 - nn | 1  ( This value should be a decimal number greater than zero ).
storevntd:log_event_file_retention = > 0 - nn | 3 ( This value should be a decimal number greater than zero ).
storevntd:LOG_SYMMETRIX_EVENTS = \
sid=00029xxxxxxx, status, events, array subsystem, checksum, diagnostic, environmental, device pool, service processor, srdf system, srdf link, srdfa session, srdf consistency group, director, device, disk, smc, audit, spa ;\ 
sid=00029xxxxxxx, status, events, array subsystem, checksum, diagnostic, environmental, device pool, service processor, srdf system, srdf link, srdfa session, srdf consistency group, director, device, disk, smc, audit, spa ;\

  1. Stop and start the storevntd daemon from symcli
    1. Stop storevntd daemon
stordaemon shutdown storevntd -immediate
  1. Ensure storevntd daemon is stopped
stordaemon list 
  1. Start storevntd daemon
stordaemon start storevntd
  1. Ensure storevntd daemon is running
stordaemon list 
  1. Run the below commands on Solutions Enabler/symcli to verify the log file configuration:
stordaemon action storevntd -cmd list -regs -v
stordaemon action storevntd -cmd list -log_targets 
stordaemon action storevntd -cmd list -log_stats
  1. A generated log file is stored or located under the Solutions Enabler log directory.
  • Windows: <Install directory>\EMC\symapi\log
  • Linux: /var/symapi/log
