Symptoms

How long does ViPR SRM keep raw data and when does it aggregate?

Cause

SRM does not keep all raw data, it will aggregate the data over time into smaller time periods

Resolution

File configured in

/opt/APG/Backends/APG-Backend/Default/conf/config.xml

Default values are as follows:

<raw-data span-time="31d" />
<aggregate name="1hour" span-time="61d" />
<aggregate name="1day" span-time="365d" />
<!-- <aggregate name="1dayAligned" xsi:type="AlignedAggregate" span-time="365d" /> -->
<!-- 7 years of 365 days ~= 2555 days -->
<aggregate name="1week" span-time="2555d" />

Which means by Default,
SRM keeps the 5 minute raw incremental data for 31 days, after 31 days, it will aggregate the raw data to 1 hour incremental data and be kept for 61 days.
After 61 days, SRM will aggregate the 1 hour data to 1 day incremental and keep this for 365 days and after a year, only 1 week incremental for 7 years.
 It is not recommended to change these values as it can affect the database size and amount of metrics kept.
