Instructions
Note: From Avamar 19.10 onwards, this procedure can be accomplished using Avamar User Interface (AUI). Check "Add gateway for DualNIC setup" section in the Dell Avamar for VMware 19.10 User Guide.
1. Deploy the Avamar proxy using Proxy Deployment Manager (PDM) or manually using OVA template like normal. In the deployment step, assign the IP address from the backup subnet/VLAN. This IP address must follow the normal rules for a Proxy Appliance (has a DNS server, associated PTR on that DNS server, and so on).
2. After the OVA has been deployed, power on the Proxy Appliance. Proxy console displays a Main Menu with 2 options. Select 2 to skip the registration to the MCS. This proxy registration occurs later.
Warning: Do not skip the following step! Otherwise, the setup does not work correctly.
3. Prepare the Proxy VM to add the second NIC. Right-click the Proxy Appliance in the vSphere web console and go Power -> Shutdown Guest OS. If a warning window appears, click YES.
4. Add the second NIC to the Proxy Appliance.
4.1 Right click the Proxy Appliance and select Edit Settings. If a warning window appears, click YES.
4.2 In the Virtual Hardware tab (default display), click "ADD NEW DEVICE" to add a new Network adapter.
4.3 Select Network Adapter
4.4 In the New Network, expand and click Adapter Type, change the value to VMXNET 3 and select the appropriate VM Port Group.
4.5 Check "Connect at power on" if it is not selected. Select the correct VM Port Group for the production network/VLAN. Click OK.
