Dell Unity: Supported SFP Part Numbers

Summary: The following Small Form-factors Pluggable (SFPs) are supported on Dell Unity arrays.

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

If an incorrect SFP part is in use, the following error message may report: The Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) module inserted in this Ethernet port is not supported. Replace it with a supported SFP module.

Cause

The inserted SFPs are not recognized as supported Dell part numbers.

Resolution

Only use supported SFP part numbers in the Dell Unity array.

Keep in mind that SFPs are hot-swappable, meaning they can be removed and replaced without shutting down the system or disrupting its operation.

Part Number Description Additional Information
019-078-041 SFP+ MULTI MODE 10GIGE OPTICAL XCVR -- 1/10 Gbps
019-078-050 SFP copper module 1G Base-T RJ-45
019-078-056 SFP+ MM OPTICAL 25GIGE 85C XCVR Unity XT models only

Converged Network Adapter (CNA) Ports Can Be Configured With:

  • 1G Base-T RJ45 SFP is used for both Block/File protocols.
  • Four (4) Ports: 8/16 Gb Fibre Channel SFP
    •  16 Gb is available in both single mode and multimode.
  • 10 Gb IP/iSCSI SFP
  • The CNA ports must be persisted as Ethernet.
  • Once set, the SFP is hot swappable with the supported 10Gbs or twin-ax SFPs.

Additional Information

  • The port type cannot be changed once committed. An array reinitialization is required to change port types.
  • LED lights flash for unsupported SFP or Twin-Ax connectors.
