Instructions
The Domain Name System (DNS) server entries must be updated during a change of ESXi hostname or Management IP address. Those host name-IP mappings are cached by DNS cache service in the vCenter server. To avoid using the wrong hostname-IP mapping, the DNS cache proxy service must be restarted at the right time.
After changing the ESXi hostname, the DNS cache service must be restarted after the hostname changing process is done.
After changing the ESXi management IP address case, the DNS cache service must be restarted immediately after updating the DNS server and before continuing the process.
The steps are the same for vCenter and VxRail manager.
How to flush DNS cache:
- Log in to the vCenter server using account root. For VxRail Manager, log in using the mystic user and elevate to root.
- Run the command
service dnsmasq restart - To verify the name-IP mapping is correct run
dig @localhost <hostname>
