Dell Unity: DPE Fan still faulted after replacement

Symptoms

  • SP logs show that the cooling module was removed, but it does not specify which cooling module was removed.
  • After the replacement, it shows the cooling module status going back to OK
  • Then shortly after, it goes back into a faulted state

One of the fan modules of DPE reporting "environmental interface failure detected." System fault LED is OFF.

Here in the case, Fan 4 of SPA is the faulted one.

After replacement of Power supply, Fan Module 4 and even Fan 8 & 9, the Fan 4 still reporting faulted or Unknown.

Cause

The communication between SP CPU Module and Fan module is having problem, which caused the SP unable to get the status of Fan module 4.
As the Fan module has been replaced, the SP is suspected to have a hardware problem though Unisphere is not reporting its fault.

 

Resolution

Replace the SPA SP module.
