Symptoms

The UNIX permissions are grayed out, and the Save button is missing when editing a folder in the WebUI File Explorer as the root user. See below for screenshot of this behavior:

Cause

Starting in OneFS 9.3, a check was added to ensure that users have std_write_dac permission when they modify files or directories using the WebUI. The change was made to improve security.

Since this check was added, root was affected by the change, and explicit std_write_dac permission is required for the Save button to appear.

Resolution

Workaround:
Manage permissions from the CLI or add an explicit std_write_dac permission to root for the directory where the Save button is missing on an as-needed basis.

This is addressed in the following code levels:

  • OneFS 9.4.0.17
  • OneFS 9.5.0.7
  • OneFS 9.7 and later versions
