No Sound after Updating Audio Driver on Windows 11 (Version 24H2)

Symptoms

No Audio heard after updating the driver in Windows 11

 

You may experience an audio problem after upgrading the audio driver. There is no sound heard from the device after you successfully update the audio driver to its most recent revision. There are no bangs or marks in the device manager application. However, no sound is heard when playing any media. (For example: Music, and Videos.)

Note: This problem is only seen on those computers running version 24H2 of the Windows 11 operating system. You can check your revision of Windows using the following steps:

  1. Press the Windows logo and R keys simultaneously and release to open a windows run box.

  2. Type winver and press the Enter key to open an About Windows information box.

  3. The information box provides the Version and Operating System build running on your device.

 

Cause

The audio driver is encountering a one-time installation error on Windows 11. (Version 24H2) This only occurs if the audio driver is being updated for the first time since November 2023.

Resolution

Note: You must have administrator rights on your computer to make any operating system changes or update any software.

The following instructions take you through uninstalling the audio device and then installing a new audio driver for your device:

  1. Open your computers Control Panel application:

    1. Click the Start Menu or search bar.

    2. Type Control Panel.

    3. Highlight the Control Panel in the results.

    4. Click open from the search returns.

  2. Click Uninstall a program to display a list of the programs and applications on your device:

    1. Your computer uses either the Cirrus High Definition Audio Driver or the Realtek Audio Driver.

    2. Locate your driver application in the list and right-click it.

    3. Select Uninstall from the menu that appears.

    4. You may be prompted for Administrator access depending on your account type. Use an Administrators User name and Password to continue.

    5. Follow the on-screen uninstall instructions.

  3. Restart the device and boot back into the operating system.

  4. Use the following tables to identify the audio driver you must install and follow these instructions to install the driver:
