Symptoms
- In NMC, the size of data cloned to tape appears incorrect
- The original backup and the first clone to Data Domain display correct sizes in both NMC and mminfo
- The second clone copy (DD to tape) shows:
- Incorrect size values
- Incorrect completion percentage
Cause
When a backup saveset spans more than one tape volume:
- The cloning session starts with the first tape volume and then switches to the second
- After completion:
- The second session part reports the entire session size
- The first session part retains a partial size
- This duplication causes gstd to miscalculate the total size, resulting in incorrect completion percentage and size reporting in NMC
Resolution
- This issue is tracked under Bug ID: NETWORKER-113140.
- A fix is in the upcoming NetWorker release scheduled for the end of May 2025
- Until the fix is applied:
- The incorrect size/status is a display issue only; the clone data integrity is not affected
- No manual workaround is required
Additional Information
- Applies to NetWorker 19.10 and environments using Data Domain cloning to tape.
- Verify actual clone size using mminfo for accurate reporting.
- Monitor Dell release notes for the patch availability.
