ProDeploy Data Migration

Data migration transfers the data and settings from an existing computer to a new computer. This process is managed onsite or remotely to minimize the time that you must be present.

Scheduled Migrations: If you have a migration scheduled through Dell or your IT department, Deployment Services will contact you at your scheduled time.

Non-Scheduled Migrations: If you do not have a migration scheduled, contact your IT department or your Dell project manager. You can also contact Deployment Services using the chat request page to begin your migration. There may be a wait time when beginning your migration during a nonscheduled time.

Preparing for Migration: Setup the new computer in its final location and with the old computer nearby. It is critical that both the old and new computers to maintain power and Internet throughout the migration process.

Data migration may take several hours depending on the amount of data there is to transfer. If an error occurs or your connection is lost, click the link to restart the Data Migration Chat.

Data migration can move slowly at times, but as long as your computers remain connected, the data continues to migrate. Contact your service desk representative using the chat on your monitor with any concerns. Do not disconnect, this requires you to start the entire process over.

  1. Typical Data Migration

    • Schedule: You will receive an invitation to schedule a time for the Deployment Service desk to call you to perform the migration.
    • Connecting and Monitoring: The Dell Deployment Service technician connects remotely to manage and monitor the migration from the old to the new computer through completion.
    • Data Migration Duration: The data migration process could take several hours based on the amount of data on your old computer. Once the connection has been established and the migration has begun, you do not need to be present during the entirety of the migration.
    • Additional Information: Upon completion of the data migration, the Dell Deployment Service technician contacts you using the chat window to show you where your new data resides. If you are unavailable, the Dell Deployment Service technician will message that the migration has been completed and disconnects the session from both computers. Confirm that your data is available on the new computer.
Note: It is important that the existing and new computers stay connected to power and the Internet until the data migration process is complete.
