Dell Unity: Import session fails during initial sync and cannot be resumed

Symptoms

During the Inband Migration Tool (IMT) initial copy phase, a session may go into an unrecoverable state.

The following error message may be displayed in Unisphere:
Import session import_X failed due to unrecoverable failure.

Cause

There are many possible causes for these errors. In this instance, the domain password was changed after creating the migration session.

Resolution

One of the following steps may help resolve this type of problem:

  1. Update the administrator credentials in the migration session properties in Unisphere so they match the current password.
  2. Create a local administrator user on the VNX CIFS server using the Microsoft Computer Management (MMC). Configure the administrator credentials in the migration session properties in Unisphere to match this newly created user account.
  3. If the password had special characters, try changing the password to an alphanumeric one.
