Avamar: How to Create, Modify or Verify Isilon NDMP User Settings using Web UI and CLI

Instructions

Configure Isilon NDMP User Settings.

Prerequisite

  • Access to the OneFS Web UI with root credentials
  • Administrative access to the Isilon CLI

Procedure

  • Log in to the OneFS Web UI as root.
    # Open a web browser and navigate to https://[ISILON_CLUSTER_IP]
    # Enter user: root
    # Enter password: ********
  • Navigate to OneFS > Data Protection > NDMP > NDMP Settings.
  • Enable the NDMP service by checking the Enable NDMP service box.
  • Set the following parameters:
    • Port Number: 10000
    • DMA vendor: Generic
    • NDMP administrator: administrator (or create a new NDMP user).
  • If an NDMP administrator does not exist, create one:
    • Using the Web UI: Use the NDMP user creation screen.
    • Using the CLI:
      isi ndmp users create --name ndmp
      Password: ********
      Confirm: ********
  • To change an existing NDMP user password:
    • Using the Web UI: Edit the NDMP user entry.
    • Using the CLI:
      isi ndmp users modify --name ndmp
      Password: ********
      Confirm: ********
  • Save the NDMP settings in the Web UI.
  • Verify the NDMP configuration:
    • Web UI: Review the NDMP Settings page for the saved values.
    • CLI:
      isi ndmp settings global view

      Expected output:
      Service: True
      Port: 10000
      DMA: generic
      Bre Max Num Contexts: 64
      MSB Context Retention Duration: 300
      MSR Context Retention Duration: 600
      Stub File Open Timeout: 10
      Enable Redirector: False
      Enable Throttler: False

CAUTION: Use strong, unique passwords for NDMP users. Weak passwords may expose backup data to unauthorized access.
