Symptoms

When performing the following procedure:
Avamar: How to backup/store Avamar checkpoint to Data Domain for single node and AVE

After completing step 2, restoring the GSAN backups on DD back to the GSAN, we observe that the restored checkpoints are showing as not validated.

cplist --full
cp.20180904173441 Tue Sep  4 19:34:41 2018   valid --- ---  nodes   1/1 stripes     39
cp.20180904041009 Tue Sep  4 06:10:09 2018   valid --- ---  nodes   1/1 stripes   7059

This raises a doubt about whether it is safe to roll back to the checkpoint.

Cause

This is expected behavior. Restored checkpoints are not marked as validated.

When a checkpoint is restored from a Data Domain, we cannot be certain that it will pass HFScheck. This is true even if it were validated prior to being backed up to Data Domain.

Resolution

Continue the procedure as documented.
