Avamar: MCS unable to start due to corrupted "pgstat.stat" file

Symptoms

The Avamar MCS service is down and cannot be restarted.

Reviewing the contents of the Avamar MCS data directory shows that corruption of the pgstat.stat file:
 
admin@utilitynode:/usr/local/avamar/var/mc/server_data/postgres/data/global/>: ls -l
ls: cannot access pgstat.stat: No such file or directory
total 0
?????????? ? ? ? ? ? pgstat.stat
The file is corrupted and it is not possible to modify / repair or replace it.
