Symptoms

  • NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) vProxy backups of Virtual Machines (VM) fail.
  • The VM's backup session log reports the following error:
Disabling storage migration of virtual machine ...
For the past 2 minutes there have been errors attempting to disable Storage vMotion, will continue attempts for another 12 minutes.
Backup has failed. Error Disabling Storage Migration for Virtual Machine
  • The vProxy session logs can be found in the following locations:
    • Linux NetWorker server: /nsr/logs/policy/POLICY-NAME/WORKFLOW-NAME/JOBID-VM_NAME-TIMESTAMP.log
    • Windows NetWorker server (Default): C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\logs\policy\POLICY-NAME\WORKFLOW-NAME\JOBID-VM_NAME-TIMESTAMP.log
    • vProxy appliance: /opt/emc/vproxy/runtime/logs/recycle/vbackupd/DATE/

Cause

The vProxy's vbackupd service is stopped responding.

Resolution

Stop and start vbackupd service on the NetWorker vProxy to resolve the issue. 
1. Connect to the vProxy over SSH as admin.
2. Switch to root: sudo su -
3. Stop the vbackupd service: systemctl stop vbackupd
4. Start the vbackupd service: systemctl start vbackupd
5. Rerun the backup.
