PowerPath: PowerPath command powermt display stops responding in an AIX VIOS environment

Symptoms

PowerPath commands such as powermt display, powermt config stop responding.
Command cfgmgr stops responding as well.
Attempt to use trace to follow a failing command fails.
dbx stops responding as well.

 

Cause

The incorrect read/write mode of a dependent semaphore in PowerPath 6.4 is the cause of this issue.
The mode of a dependent semaphore in the PowerPath 6.4 was set as write.

 

Resolution

The resolution to this issue is to upgrade PowerPath to version 7.0 or above.

 

 

Note: Disabling emcp_mond cannot be used as a workaround as it is also affected.
