Symptoms
Unisphere for VMAX 8.3 installation fails with "Error: 8.3 file name creation is disabled", even though the installation volume has the "8dot3 name creation is enabled" status.

Cause
By default the Windows 8 Dot 3 naming convention is disabled. You need to review the Windows systems path.
Resolution
To address this issue you need to check the "Path" variable in Windows.

- Via the System Information MMC:
My Computer>Properties?Advanced system Properties> Environment Variables>
- Edit "Path" to include the install path for the SYMCLI\bin file.
- Also ensure that the standard Windows variables are also there. Removing these will cause the error.
- Or from a Command Prompt:
- Type "Path" from the command line.
C:\>fsutil 8dot3name set G: 0
