Symptoms

Note: The symptom is that the Linux OS automatically power off instead of auto rebooting while booting up.

Cause

The audit daemon checks all the drives mounted, and if any drive is full, the audit daemon powers off the server.

This is working as design.

Resolution

Boot into ramdisk mode and verify each drive utilization. Release space if any drive is full.

  1. Boot into ramdisk mode with "rd.break"
    • Press "e" for edit when showing GRUB menu and append "rd.break" to the line starting with linux.
    • Press ctrl+x to boot after editing.
    • Booted into ramdisk mode
      # mount -o remount,rw /sysroot/
      # mount --rbind /proc /sysroot/proc
      # mount --rbind /sys /sysroot/sys
      # mount --rbind /dev /sysroot/dev
      # mount --rbind /run /sysroot/run
      # chroot /sysroot
      # mount -a
      # df -h
  2. With the output of "df," you see which drive is full. Release space from the drive by moving the data to other drive or delete the data unwantedly.
  3. If SELinux is enabled, touch the following file to instruct the OS to relabel all files with the changed.
    # touch /.autorelabel
  4. Exit the Chroot and reboot with the command "exit." It might take a few minutes if you must relabel for SELinux.
