Symptoms

PowerProtect Data Manager viene utilizzato per proteggere l'ambiente vSphere con la soluzione Transparent Snapshot Data Mover (TSDM). Il VIB (vSphere Installation Bundle) è stato implementato correttamente sugli host ESXi nel cluster. I backup intermittenti delle macchine virtuali (VM) hanno esito negativo con codice errore ABV0016. L'interfaccia utente di PowerProtect Data Manager mostra:

ABV0016: VM Direct engine 'localhost' is unable to back up the virtual machine 'my-vm-name' on vCenter 'my-vcernter-name' because of a vCenter API issue.

The VM Direct engine cannot complete the backup of this virtual machine because of a vCenter API operation did not complete successfully.

To troubleshoot this issue: 1) Verify that the vCenter can be reached. 2) If the vCenter is busy, wait for some activities to complete and then retry the operation. 3) Verify that the virtual machine exists on the vCenter.

Cause

Nell'hypervisor ESXi che ospita la VM interessata il servizio Data Protection Daemon (DPD) non è avviato. Il problema si verificava in modo intermittente poiché vMotion spostava le VM interessate nell hypervisor ESXi con il servizio DPD arrestato.

Resolution

Assicurarsi che il servizio DPD sia avviato su tutti gli host ESXi nel cluster. Se il servizio viene interrotto, selezionare il servizio DPD e l'opzione di avvio.

Il servizio DPD può anche essere riavviato utilizzando una sessione SSH sull host ESXi. 
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd status
dpd is stopped
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd start
Starting dpd:Setting the memory limit for dpd resource pool on this host to 300 MB
Setting max number of file descriptors to 800
Setting MALLOC_ARENA_MAX to 20
success
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd status
dpd is running

Additional Information

Se il servizio DPD non rimane in esecuzione, contattare il supporto VMware per determinare la causa del problema del servizio DPD.
