Symptoms

The replication session was paused and unable to resume after code upgrade to 5.5.

Running a verify interconnect results in error:

Error 12202: Interconnect validate failed between source interface 172.25.XX.XX and destination interface 150.216.XX.XX with status - Unable to connect to destination interface via DIC service.

Cause

A new DIC service DIC_E was introduced in code 5.5 to support TLS1.3.

This service uses port 5086 (DIC_D is on port 5085), and it only supports SSL connection with certificate. This means it sends a certificate to the client during the SSL handshake. The client uses the certificate to authenticate the DIC server.

Resolution

The user must open port 5086 on the firewall to allow the remote array to connect. The replication session can then be resumed.

A new check was added to the Pre-Upgrade Health Check (PUHC) as of Unity OE version 5.5.2 which will detect if existing replications are present, and will present a warning to ensure that port 5086 is open.  The PUHC cannot reliably detect if a port is open, so the alert will trigger on any system where replications are configured.  The alert does not stop the upgrade, but it does present a warning which must be acknowledged in order to proceed with the upgrade.
