Symptoms

Voor SNMP-bewakingsapplicaties kan het nodig zijn dat de SNMP Engine ID om veiligheidsredenen traps accepteert bij het gebruik van SNMPv3.

Cause

Vanaf RFC5343: Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Context EngineID Discovery 
SNMP version 3 (SNMPv3) provides cryptographic security to protect
   devices from unauthorized access.  This specification recommends use
   of the security services provided by SNMPv3.  In particular, it is
   RECOMMENDED to protect the discovery exchange.

   An snmpEngineID can contain information such as a device's MAC
   address, IPv4 address, IPv6 address, or administratively assigned
   text.

Voor PowerVault ME4- en ME5-arrays is deze waarde gebaseerd op het MAC-adres van de controllermodulebeheerinterface en verschilt voor elke controllerinterface.

Resolution

Omdat deze waarde uniek is voor elke controller en de beheerder mogelijk een query moet uitvoeren op een specifieke SNMP OID om deze waarde te krijgen.  Dit kan worden gedaan met behulp van de volgende methode en een applicatie zoals SNMP Loop van {snmpsoft.com}

Op basis van de SNMP-specificatie bevindt de EngineID zich in SNMP op de volgende OID-locatie:  1.3.6.1.6.3.10.2.1.1

Het uitvoeren van SNMPwalk op een controller met een MAC-adres van 00 C0 FF 3C C7 11 resulteerde bijvoorbeeld in de volgende uitvoer.

C:\Tools\Snmpwalk>SnmpWalk.exe -r:10.236.249.232 -c:public -os:1.3.6.1.6.3.10.2.1.1
