Instructions
Where can I download the MIBs?
To download the MIBs:
- Enter the PowerVault service tag or the PowerVault ME model.
- Click Drivers & Downloads tab.
- Download the Dell ME Series Storage Array MIB
How do I enable SNMP on PowerVault ME5?
Using PowerVault Manager, find the Services panel (Settings > Network > Services) and check Enable SNMP support.
For SNMP v2, go to the Notifications panel (Settings > Notifications) and configure SNMP settings such as community and trap destination.
For SNMP v3, go to Settings > Users > SNMPv3 for options to create SNMPv3 users who can either access the Management Information Base (MIB) or receive trap notifications.
NOTE: The Engine ID is used to uniquely identify SNMPv3 entities. The Engine ID is generated from the controller MAC address. For more information about it, see ME4: What is the SMMP v3 Engine ID and how to find it?
Where can I find the SNMP reference for the PowerVault ME5 series?
The SNMP reference is provided in the chapter Other Management Interfaces found in the Dell PowerVault ME5 Series Administrator's Guide.
PowerVault ME series uses the FibreAlliance SNMP Management Information Base (MIB) version 2.2 specification. This industry consortium has disbanded. As a consequence, development is limited to SNMP read support (snmpget) to objects such as the management interfaces, environmental monitoring, uptime, and array health status. It is not possible to use SNMPGET or SNMPWALK to report objects such as front-end ports, disks, or volumes and associated performance attributes of these objects.
PowerVault ME array administrators who want to monitor attributes not provided by SNMP protocol can use scripts or applications that use the native PowerVault ME5 API or else DMTF Redfish REST API schema.
The native API is described in the section Using a script to access the CLI of the Dell PowerVault ME5 Series Storage System CLI Reference Guide.
Supported attributes for DMTF Redfish REST API on PowerVault ME5 series with code samples can found on GitHub at the following URL https://github.com/Seagate/SystemsRedfishPy
Additional information
Dell enterprise customers who manage additional Dell infrastructure products can use Dell management console products such as Dell OpenManage Enterprise v4.x and Secure Connect Gateway Virtual Edition v5.x to monitor equipment health status and inventory.
Dell Technologies recommends that PowerVault ME controller firmware be maintained at the latest available version. Updated versions may contain fixes for issues that caused the SNMP service to become unresponsive.
