Symptoms
- A Planned failover event has failed for some or all replication sessions
- An unexpected failover event has occurred and has failed for some or all replication sessions
- The NAS server and file system are unreachable
- PowerStore Manager displays the Alert:
| Alert ID | SDNAS_CP_FSREP_SESSION_STATE_CONFIG_FS_OUT_OF_SYNC |
|---|---|
| Alert Text | NAS Server %(name) is not reachable after DR failover failed for the associated replication session. |
| Error Code | 0x01C01802 |
Cause
The disaster recovery (DR) failover fails because PowerStore Metro Sync requires all file systems to be fully synchronized before initiating failover. This applies to both Planned and Unplanned Failover events.
If any file system is out of sync, the failover process cannot complete for those file systems, resulting in unreachable data. This behavior is intentional to prevent an unsynchronized file system from entering production mode at the DR site, thereby safeguarding data integrity at the source site.
Resolution
To resolve the issue, choose one of the following options:
-
Option 1: Restore and Resynchronize
- Bring the source system online.
- Wait for data synchronization to complete with the destination site.
- Verify the sync status of file system sessions (previously out of sync) using PowerStore Manager.
- If required, retry the failover once synchronization is confirmed.
-
Option 2: Forced Failover (Data Loss Risk!)
- Perform a forced failover, accepting the risk of data loss, to bring the file system into production mode at the destination site.
