PowerStore Alerts: SNMP Algorithms Disallowed

Summary: PowerStoreOS 4.3.0 and above, The MD5 and 3DES/TDES algorithms are no longer allowed for SNMP notifications.

Symptoms

  • Starting with PowerStoreOS 4.3.0, the MD5 and 3DES/TDES algorithms are no longer supported for SNMP notifications
  • Any SNMP server configured with these algorithms are disabled until it is reconfigured to use only supported algorithms
  • PowerStore Manager displays the ‘Disallowed SNMP Algorithms’ alert

Error Code 0x03D00101

 

Cause

MD5 and 3DES/TDES algorithms are no longer considered secure and are not permitted for user-based security in SNMP.
To maintain authentication and privacy for SNMP notifications, users should reconfigure their SNMP servers to use SHA for authentication and AES for encryption.

Resolution

  • Reconfigure all SNMP servers to use allowed algorithms
  • Disallowed algorithms (MD5 and 3DES/TDES) displays for servers configured with them, but they are no longer be selectable
  • The alert automatically clears once the SNMP infrastructure is configured with allowed algorithms
