Symptoms

The EMCSAI error message GDDM031E was output in large quantities for a short period of time when GDDRPCCD ran.
It seemed that a CPU or message loop problem had occurred.

Cause

Although this JOB specified REGION=0M, the cause of this problem was the influence to which region size was restricted using the customer's exit IEFUSI. When REGION=0M is specified at batch JOB, the exit sets the Private Area-64K to the region request below 16 MB and sets the 32 MB to the region request above 16 MB.

EMCRS 0013 means that STORAGE ALLOCATION failed, indicating the job does not have enough storage.
 

Resolution

Permanent Fix:

Performing one of the following actions can resolve the issue.

  • Change the REGION= size parameter in the JCL to a value equivalent to 0M.
  • Change the rule of zOS SMF installation exit IEFUSI to not limit region size for EMCRDF or EMCSCF started tasks or GDDR batch jobs.
  • Remove SRDF HC,  and SCF started task names, and GDDR job names from the zOS SYS1.PARMLIB member SMFLIMxx which limits private area storage. (SMFLIMxx is available starting with z/OS 2.2.)
