Symptoms

The customer has a GDDR Tape configuration and was performing a GDDR utility to delete DLm snapshot file system before running GDDR script GDD2P01A.

Although the utility was successful and completed with an RC=0 the following error messages were seen in the output:
22051-06:31:51 GDDR639I GDDR Completed DLMAUT Delete DLm Snapshot with rc 0
GDDR992E Error 784 in GDDAVAL: Invalid global variable value passed (_20211010@15:21:11.776905_202109)

22051-06:31:51 GDDR998E - xx = gddrval(varnamed,"U",lastdttm"_"currdate"@"currtime)

The issue occurred at GDDR 5.2 (GD52115) and Mainframe Enablers V8.5.

Cause

The utility does not clear or reset the RUND variables when run in stand-alone fashion resulting in an ever-increasing length of the value for the RUND variables, ultimately leading to the invalid value message described in the GDDR992E error message.

Resolution

Workaround:

There is an immediate workaround to temporarily stop the GDDR992E error message from being issued. From the GDDR ISPF panels, use the Maintenance then the System option to delete the global variable GLOBAL.GDDR.RUND.GDDDLVSX.GDDDLVSX.RC. This prevents the GDDR992E error from occurring for approximately the next 20 executions of the DR test job.

Permanent Fix:
  • For GDDR V5.3, PTF GD53070 has been developed to correct the issue. It is available to download from Dell Technologies Online Support.
