Instructions

Recommended method to uninstall RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines:

Prerequisites:

  1. The process requires a Windows desktop with access to the vCenter that the RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines system resides on.
  2. The desktop must have Java 8 or higher
  3. Download a version of the RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines Uninstaller Tool that matches the version used in the environment.

Steps:

  1. Unprotect all Consistency Groups in the RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines system to be removed
    • Wait 15 minutes for the system to remove the protection, update the source and target Virtual Machines(VMs), remove Journal devices.
  2. Run "uninstaller.bat" from the extracted folder.
    1. Perform one of the following actions:
      • Type uninstall to uninstall a single vRPA cluster from a vCenter.
      • Type full_rp_uninstall to uninstall all vRPA clusters from a vCenter.
    2. Enter the details of the vCenter Server, the tool tests connectivity to the vCenter Server.
    3. Enter "n" to not scan more than one vCenter Server
    4. Perform one of the following actions:
      • To uninstall a single vRPA cluster from a vCenter, type the index number of the vRPA cluster that you want to uninstall.
      • To remove more than one cluster, type the index numbers separated by commas (for example: 1,4,9)
      • To uninstall all vRPA clusters from a vCenter, type y.
  3. For RecoverPoint for Virtual 6.x - If all RecoverPoint systems were removed, uninstall the Splitter and Jiraf IO Filters
    1. Run "uninstaller.bat" from the extracted folder.
    2. Run iof_uninstall
    3. Type Y to continue to remove the IO Filters
    4. Enter the details of the vCenter Server, the tool tests connectivity to the vCenter Server.
    5. Enter "n" to not scan more than one vCenter Server
    6. Ensure to enter a comma-separated ESXi cluster number (such as 1, 2) / All:
    7. A message is displayed "Do you want to continue uninstallation of IO Filters on selected vCenter(s) and ESXi clusters? (Y/N)"
Type Y to complete the uninstallation.
  4. For RecoverPoint for Virtual 5.x - If all RecoverPoint systems were removed, uninstall the Splitter and Jiraf vibs
    1. For each host in the ESXi cluster -
      • Verify that the host has RecoverPoint vibs with the CLI command "esxcli software vib list |grep EMC"
      • Put the host in Maintenance mode using vSphere UI, or CLI command "esxcli system maintenanceMode set -e=true"
      • Remove Splitter vib with CLI command "esxcli software vib remove -n "RP-Splitter"
      • Remove Jiraf IO Filter vib with CLI command "esxcli software vib remove -n "emcjiraf"
      • Exit Maintenance Mode using vSphere UI, or CLI command "esxcli system maintenanceMode set -e=false"
  5. Remove the RecoverPoint for VMs Plugin server:
    1. In the RecoverPoint for VMs Plugin for vSphere Client, select System > Administration > vCenter Server, and then select and delete.
    2. Delete all vCenter Servers from the Plugin server.
    3. Power off and remove the Plugin server VM.

Procedure to manually uninstall a RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines environment (Avoid if uninstaller tool can be used).

Flow of operations:

  • Unprotecting VMs
  • Removing the vRPA cluster from the RecoverPoint for VMs system
  • Detaching vRPAs
  • Powering off vRPAs
  • Uninstalling the RecoverPoint for VMs splitter
  • Deleting the repository folder
  • Unregistering the RecoverPoint(RP) extension from the Managed Object Browser
  • Verifying that the configuration parameters are empty
  • Removing the vRPA iSCSI IPs
  • Removing custom tokens from the Managed Object Browser
  • Cleaning up the vRPAs

Unprotecting VMs
1. In the vSphere Web Client home page, click the RecoverPoint for VMs Management icon > Protection tab. Click Virtual Machines.
2. Select the VM to be unprotected. Click the Unprotect icon. Repeat for each protected VM.

Removing the vRPA cluster from the RecoverPoint for VMs system
If there is more than one vRPA cluster in the system that you are uninstalling, you must remove each vRPA cluster from the system.
If a system with at least two clusters with one to be removed, run this from a vRPA cluster that is remaining in the system. It must not be run from the cluster being removed.

  1. Use an ssh client to connect to a vRPA in the cluster and log in as user boxmgmt.
  2. From the Main Menu, select Cluster operations > Remove a cluster from this system.

Detaching vRPAs

  1. Use an ssh client to connect to a vRPA and log in as user boxmgmt.
  2. From the Main Menu, select Cluster Operations > Detach from Cluster. The vRPA detaches from the cluster. All replication is paused.
  3. Repeat this procedure on all vRPAs in all vRPA clusters in the system.

Powering off vRPAs

  1. At the vSphere Web Client, in Inventory, select VMs and Templates.
  2. Select each vRPA, right-click, and select All vCenter Actions > Power > Power Off.

Uninstalling the RecoverPoint for VMs splitter/Jiraf

  2. Extract the name of the VIBs to uninstall from the displayed list (listed as "RPSplitter").
  3. Use the following command to remove the VIB: esxcli software vib remove -n  <vib name>  --maintenance-mode
  4. For RecoverPoint for VMs 5.2.x and 5.3.x, remove the Jiraf vib as well: esxcli software vib remove -n emcjiraf
  5. Repeat this procedure for every ESXi host used by the RecoverPoint for VMs system being removed, unless other RecoverPoint for VMs systems use it.

Deleting the repository folder (Delete Repository and Journal files)

  1. At the vSphere Web Client, select vCenter > Datastores > Manage. Select the datastore where the repository folder was created.
  2. In the list of files displayed in the Files subtab, locate the RPvStorage folder. Right-click and select Delete File.

Unregistering the RecoverPoint(RP) extension from the Managed Object Browser
The RecoverPoint extension should be unregistered from the Managed Object Browser at each vCenter that contains ESXIis hosting vRPA clusters.

Note: Access to the Managed Object Browser is disabled by default in vSphere 6.0. For instructions on how to enable access, see VMware KB2108405.

  1. In a web browser, enter the fully-qualified domain name (or IP address) for the ESXi or vCenter Server system: https://hostname.yourcompany.com/mob/?moid=ExtensionManager
