Resolution
Scan External Media Enabled:
Depending on the policies set, all files that exist on external media are scanned and encrypted.
This scan occurs every time external media is inserted, so any files that are added without encryption can be caught and encrypted.
Ejecting the device before the encryption sweep completes, leaves unencrypted data on the device, potentially preventing you from accessing it (depending on the policies set).
- If the Scan External Media policy is set and the Shield icon is in the system tray, an animated magnifying lens displays, indicating a sweep is in progress. Once the magnifying lens stops, the sweep is complete. Click OK to close the dialog.
- If the Scan External Media policy is not set, a dialog displays, telling you that from this point on, files that are added are encrypted. Click OK to close the dialog.
- If the Scan External Media policy is set and the Shield icon is not in the system tray, a dialog displays, telling you that an encryption sweep is in progress. Click OK to close the dialog.
Encryption Sweeps after EMS Upgrade:
If you have upgraded EME and your encryption sweep is in progress when you eject the external media, you only have access to files which have been upgraded and encrypted, depending on the policies set. Ejecting the external media during an upgrade sweep requires that you return the external media to the upgrading computer for completion of the upgrade process.
