Summary: When setting up VASA Provider, GKs and the database device must be added using the vApp UI in the Manage->Gatekeepers Section This KB is written for Vasa Provider vApp but is suitable for any vApp when adding Gatekeepers using the UI. ...
Symptoms
Unable to add Gatekeepers to vApp using UI for VASA Provider setup
ECOM does not start in VASA Provider UI.
ESXi version 6.7
VASA Provider vApp: 9.2.1
Cause
This issue occurred due to ports 22 and 443 were not open bidirectionally (set unidirectional) between the vApp and the ESXi host.
Once the FW rule was set to bi-directional, we could add and validate the ESXi host and select the GK devices and database devices and add them to the vApp Manager.
Resolution
In order for the ESXi added host to successfully work with the vApp Manager UI please check the following:
1) ESXi server must be added as FQDN and the VMware cert must list CN as the FQDN (the cert details can be seen in the vApp Gui when adding the ESXi host).
2) Ports 22 and 443 need to be bi-directional from VASA to the ESXi host that it is mounted on.
3) The TCP/IP stack for ESXi does not list the Doman in the default TCP/IP DNS tab.
4) This allows the customer to add and validate the ESXi host. Then able to select the GK devices and the database devices and add them to the vApp Manager.
