PowerStore: Source NAS Server and user file systems are synchronously replicated to the destination system, but are offline/corrupted.

Summary: During synchronous file replication operations, the source file system and NAS Server can be marked corrupted and offline, yet still replicate to the destination system.

Symptoms

  • Alerts are generated when NAS Server and user file systems become corrupted and/or are offline. For example, alert 0x01300903 "File system %(fsname) in NAS server %(vdmname) (fsid %(fsid)) is offline after discovering corruption"
  • The affected file systems and NAS Servers will be marked offline for recovery.

Cause

Internally, File replication uses underlying block transport between source and target systems.  In this scenario, the underlying block transport is unaware of file or NAS Server corruption, thereby continuing to replicate offline/corrupted synchronous file objects to the destination.

Resolution

NAS Server and file system recovery must be performed.  Escalate to your Service Provider immediately.
