Inspiron and Vostro Laptops Show Incorrect Memory Speed in BIOS

Symptoms

Inspiron or Vostro laptop installed the 3200Mhz memory may see that the memory speed shows 2667Mhz in the BIOS. This only happens for discrete graphic configuration with the Type C Variant which should support up to 3200Mhz.

Affected Platforms:

  • Inspiron 15 3520
  • Vostro 3420
  • Vostro 3520

Cause

The BIOS has incorrect logic to detect the memory configuration and causes wrong memory mapping.

Resolution

Updating to BIOS version 1.26.0 or later on the computer resolves the issue. To download and install the BIOS, reference BIOS Update Guide.
