Symptoms
When trying to add a VM to a Policy, PowerProtect Data Manager tries to enable LWD on the VM. This task fails with the following error:
The VM is not being migrated. DRS is disabled.
Enable LWD-based data protection Virtual machine VM01 Cannot complete the operation. See the event log for details. Data protection operation is not allowed while a migration is in progress com.vmware.dp
The VM is not being migrated. DRS is disabled.
Cause
Some Unknown condition in vSphere was causing this failure. Prior to this issue occurring, the vCenter server was unresponsive. It is possible that the VM was being migrated when the vCenter was unresponsive.
Resolution
The following steps resolved the issue:
1. From vSphere UI, shutdown the VM
2. Remove the VM from the vCenter inventory.
3. Re-register the VM in the vCenter server (Browse the datastore and locate the VMs vmx file to re-register).
