Why?
- In preparation for a Steady State DDOS Upgrade with Remote Proactive, the DDOS Upgrade RPM must be downloaded and uploaded to each Data Domain Server that must be upgraded.
- It is vital this is done before the upgrade date, otherwise the upgrade may need to be postponed.
How to Download the Upgrade RPM.
- If you want to be proactive and download it in advance, download the RPM by locating it from either of these locations:
- DD OS Software Versions Knowledgebase Article: PowerProtect DD: Software Versions
- DD Downloads Page on support.dell.com: https://www.dell.com/support/home/product-support/product/dd-os/overview
- Find the code to download.
- Click on Download to the right of that version.
- Digitally sign the End User License Agreement at the bottom, and click I agree.
- Choose the files to download from the list.
How to upload the upgrade RPM to /ddr/var/releases on your Data Domain Server.
- The RPM can be loaded on to the Data Domain System using the System Manager UI.
- Log in to the System Manager UI using an administrative account like sysadmin.
- Make sure to choose the correct server from those displayed.
- Go to the maintenance tab (Depending on the DDOS version the menu may be on the left or displayed across the top).
- Example: 5.5.x.x System Manager:

- Go to the section Upgrade Packages Available on the Data Domain System.
- Click Upload Upgrade Package.
- Go to where the RPM was downloaded on the computer.
- Click OK to upload the RPM to the server (ddr/var/releases).
- When finished uploading the RPM, it should now be displayed under the Upgrade Packages Available on the Data Domain System section.
Verify that the package was downloaded successfully.
- Tick the box to the left of the file name.
- Click View Checksum. A box appears with a long string.

- Compare the Checksum from the download with that of the one displayed in the Checksum box.
- If they match, then the package was downloaded successfully.
- If they do not match, then the package may not have been downloaded successfully. Download the Upgrade Package again.
