How to Fix OneDrive Sync Problem in Windows

Instructions

  1. Ensure that your Windows 10 and OneDrive are updated. Click Settings > Update & security > Windows Update.
    • Windows is updated: Proceed to step 2.
    • Windows is not updated: Update your Windows and OneDrive. Once updated, go to step 2.
  2. Restart the OneDrive sync client app on your computer. Right-click the OneDrive icon (onedriveicon) in the notification area of the taskbar then click Exit. A dialog box is displayed.

  3. Click the Close OneDrive button in the dialog box.

  4. Click the Start menu then select the OneDrive application.
    Note: If OneDrive cannot be found on the menu, click the Search button in the taskbar, type in OpenDrive then click the application that will appear in the menu.

     
  5. Check if the sync problem is resolved.
    • Sync is resolved: No further action needed.
    • Sync problem persists: Go to step 6.
       
  6. Check if the OneDrive icon in the notifications area is crossed out.
    • Yes: Go to step 7.
    • No: Go to step 8. Click the OneDrive icon then Help & Settings, Settings, then Unlink this PC. Once this is done, you will need to sign back into OneDrive. If issues continue, follow on to step 8.
       
  7. Right-click the icon then select view sync problems. Check the dialog box that will appear; this will show the error as well as the resolution.
     
  8. Follow the instructions given in the Resolution column.

  9. Click the Start menu then find and click OneDrive or type in OneDrive in the search box then click the OneDrive application in the submenu. Did OneDrive start working?
    • Yes: No further action needed.
    • No: Please continue with installation of Latest Version of OneDrive.
       
  10. Download and install the latest version of OneDriveThis hyperlink is taking you to a website outside of Dell Technologies..
  11. Enter your OneDrive account then click the Sign in button to set up your account.
