Avamar: Cannot Log In to Avamar Node as Root Due to Potential File System Issue "Input-output error"

It is not possible to log in as root on an Avamar data node or connect to it using SSH.


Commands that are issued from the Avamar Utility Node (with SSH keys loaded), are not responsive.
 

A keyboard and monitor can be connected directly to the node to check the condition of the operating system.
 

The output may look similar to the following when logging in as root on the affected node:
 

su - root

-bash: /bin/su: Input/output error

The "ls -l listing of /data01/cur on the affected data node:

The root cause is unknown, but it is suspected that the file system is corrupted. 

Results of connecting to the node can vary depending on the status of the operating system. It may not be possible to log in, or other errors may appear.

Contact your Dell Support provider to run a file system check, and if necessary, rebuild the node.
