Dell Unity: Unable to Create Traditional Pool from Unisphere OR RAID 5 or 10 Not Available When Creating Pool from Unisphere

In this situation, the Unity array was running OE 5.2 and all NL-SAS drives were present in the array.

When trying to create a pool from Unisphere, only RAID 6 is available (RAID 5 and RAID 10 are not available).

The Unity array is working as per design.

In Dell Unity OE version 4.2 and later, a dynamic pool is the only pool type that can be created in Unisphere for an all-flash system. Also, this is true for hybrid systems running OE version 5.2 and later. Creating a traditional pool requires using the Unisphere CLI or REST API. Also, when creating a dynamic pool with NL-SAS drives, only RAID 6 is allowed when using Unisphere.

A traditional pool can be created from the CLI using below commands

1) uemcli /stor/config/profile -traditional -configurable show    <- Shows the profiles available in the system

2) uemcli /stor/config/dg show        <- Shows the Disk Groups available in the system

3) uemcli -d <IP Address> -u Local/admin -p <Password> /stor/config/pool create -name <Pool Name> -diskGroup dg_26 -drivesNumber 45 -storProfile tprofile_2 -type traditional           <- Command to create a traditional Pool (we use 45 of the 47 drives to leave 2 for spares)

Note: This command is run from a workstation with Unity uemcli installed.
Alternately the command can be run directly on the SP via an SSH connection:

uemcli -u Local/admin -p <Password> /stor/config/pool create -name <Pool Name> -diskGroup dg_26 -drivesNumber 45 -storProfile tprofile_2 -type traditional
