This article explains how to update the BIOS version of a Dell PowerEdge Server using EFI file. The update can be done directly from the UEFI interface. Dell PowerEdge Server 12 Generation above and Dell Precision Rack Workstation R7920 ,R7920XL are compatible with this update method (screenshots may be slightly different for 12G Servers).

Steps:
Please download the Bios XXX.EFI file for your server from the Dell support site.
1. Copy the file to a
USB device.
Note: If you are doing this locally, copy the file to a USB FAT 32 device format on the root of the drive. Alternatively, create an image file of the .efi file and mount it in the virtual media of the iDRAC. How to use the virtual media of iDRAC is explained in
this article.
2. Plug in the USB device and
press F11 during POST to enter BIOS Boot Manager
3. Select the boot from file option.
4. Point the server to the location of the file that is in the thumb drive or mounted image in the iDRAC.
5. The server will reboot and the below screen will be displayed. Please Select
"Continue Bios Update" option.
6. Update of the BIOS will be launched.
The BIOS version is now updated.
