Data Domain: Alert - Invalid Hardware Configuration

Summary: After a hardware change, the Data Domain system may prevent the filesystem from being enabled if components are missing, incorrectly installed, or placed in unsupported slots.

Symptoms

  • System reports missing or invalid hardware, or devices installed in incorrect locations
  • Filesystem fails to enable after hardware changes

Alert notification examples:

EVT-ENVIRONMENT-00048 InvalidHardwareWarning: The system detected an invalid hardware configuration
OR
EVT-ENVIRONMENT-00049 InvalidHardwareCritical: Filesystem can't be enabled due to an invalid hardware configuration

Cause

  • New hardware installed in unsupported slots
  • Required components missing or misplaced
  • System fails validation checks during boot or inventory scan

Resolution

  1. Connect to the system using SSH and run:
    • # enclosure show  misconfiguration
    • This command identifies any hardware that is missing or incorrectly placed
  2. Refer to Data Domain Hardware Documentation to determine the correct slot and configuration requirements.

  3. Power-off the system, reposition, or reinstall hardware components so as to meet valid configuration criteria.

  4. Reboot the system. The alert clears automatically if the hardware configuration is valid.
