Symptoms

The Dell Unity storage system may experience an unexpected SP reboot, particularly on lower-end models, like the 300 and 300F, running UnityOS version 5.0.0.x.

Cause

The mergelogs component of NGTRiiAGE (run by uDoctor) is a memory intensive process. Mergelogs is run at least once a day (5-10 minutes) to all Secure Remote Services (SRS) enabled arrays, and periodically on non-ESRS enabled arrays. The issue is more likely to occur in UnityOS version 5.0 due to changes in mergelogs that process additional timestamp formats and log files.

Resolution

Fix
This issue is fixed in Unity OE 5.0.1.0.5.011.

Workaround
Disable the "triaging" service in uDoctor. Customers do not lose any functionality when leaving uDoctor in this state. Customers who have opted-in to CloudIQ still see their daily Data Collects sent to Dell.

To disable the daily_triage service in uDoctor, SSH in to the array using your "service" credentials and run the following command:

svc_udoctor -j -d daily_triage
