Symptoms

Unisphere for VMAX installation failed on a Linux host. The following error message appeared:
 

Deploying schema and create user for ROOT...
 
Unisphere for VMAX Configuration Error. Installation will be aborted.
Please check the Unisphere for VMAX documentation to fix this configuration issue.
SMAS Database timeout cannot be started.

 


 

Cause

The postgres user login shell is incorrect.

Resolution

To address this issue, do the following:

  • In the /etc/passwd file, change the postgres user login shell to /bin/bash.
  • The login shell should not have "/usr/sbin/nologin" or "/bin/false".
