Cause
Unix partitioned devices are not supported with AppSync 4.0

Resolution
This is listed in the AppSync Support Matrix:
AppSync does not support filesystems or ASM diskgroups on Linux operating system devices which are not full block devices (like /dev/sdc) or primary first partition (like /dev/sdc1)
