Avamar: NDMP and DMA Configuration - PowerScale Isilon

DMA is a setting on PowerScale to identify the DMA.

The following values are legal:  generic, backbone, CommVault, Dell, Symantec, Tivoli, symantec-netbackup, symantec-backupexec.

The default value is generic.

If your DMA vendor is not in the list, select generic.

 
Avamar is INCLUDED in the list.

OneFS supports the following DMAs:

• Symantec NetBackup
• Dell NetWorker
• Dell Avamar
• Symantec Backup Exec
• IBM Tivoli Storage Manager
• Dell NetVault
• CommVault Simpana
• ASG-Time Navigator 

Instructions:

There are two workarounds.

1. PowerScale (Isilon)
   1. Using the CLI
      1. Log in as root on the PowerScale
      2. Verify the DMA setting:  isi ndmp settings list
      3. Change DMA: isi ndmp settings set DMA generic
   2. Use UI
      1. Use UI > Data Protection > Backup > NDMP Settings. 
      2. Set the DMA properly and save the setting.
2. Avamar
   1. Add an environment variable in the avndmp.cmd file.
   2. Use CLI     
      1. On the Avamar NDMP accelerator
      2. In the /usr/local/avamar/var/CLIENT_NAME directory
      3. Create or edit avndmp.cmd
      4. Add the following on a line by itself.
      5. --env=HIST=D
      6. This takes effect with the next client backup and only in effect until the backup process is running.

Dell vendor means Dell NetWorker - ONLY.
